As EVs reach a record 82% of the market, Tesla maintains its dominance in Norway

In 2023, Tesla continued to outpace competitors in Norway's automobile sales data, even in the face of a continuing dispute between the powerful labour unions in the Nordic area and the American electric vehicle manufacturer.

According to registration statistics released on Tuesday, nearly five out of every six new vehicles sold in Norway last year were battery-only powered. Tesla's market share increased to 20.0% from 12.2% in 2022.

In a report to the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV), the market share of new electric cars in Norway increased overall from 79.3% in 2022 to 82.4% in 2023.

Oil-producing Norway, which aims to be the first country to ban petrol and diesel sale of cars by 2025, exempts completely electric vehicles from many of the tariffs levied on competitors using internal combustion engines, while certain fees were instituted in 2023.
