Cost of living payments will be given to millions.

From Tuesday, more than six million disabled individuals in the UK will begin to receive a £150 payment to help with living expenses.

The government will disburse the money to eligible households over the course of the following two weeks, from June 20th to July 4th.

Those who qualify for the help do not need to take any action because the payment is made automatically.

It comes after a September cost-of-living adjustment for disabled people.

Individuals who are on the disability payments below are also eligible for this payment/benefit:

  • Personal independence payment
  • Armed Forces independence payment
  • Disability living allowance
  • Constant attendance allowance
  • War pension mobility supplement
  • Attendance allowance

The first purpose of cost-of-living payments was to assist struggling households with the rising price of gas and electricity.

Although they were never specifically intended for these expenses, families were always free to utilise the funds anyway they saw fit.

The government has also recently provided cost-of-living payments to low-income households and seniors.

Additionally, from October and March, all home energy costs were reduced by at least £400, however, there are no plans to repeat this process the following winter.

Inflation, which measures how quickly prices grow, reached 40-year highs last year, which has had a negative impact on households' wallets.

In April, food costs in the UK rose dramatically for necessities like sugar, milk, and pasta, continuing to rise at the quickest rate in over 45 years.

According to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, "the additional costs faced by disabled people mean that inflation is particularly challenging, which is why halving it this year and getting back to the Bank of England's 2% target is our priority."

Nevertheless, the Chief of one charity claimed that for many homes, the £150 payment would "barely scratch the surface."

In the year ending in April, the inflation rate decreased from 10.1% in March to 8.7%. A lower rate just indicates that prices are growing less fast, not that they are decreasing.

Tomorrow is the scheduled date for the upcoming inflation data.
