ChatGPT traffic is declining as Google Search gains market share

In a note released on Monday, Bank of America analysts stated that June saw a modest gain in Google's worldwide search market share, which represents growth for the second straight month. According to Bank of America, this increase may be the consequence of AI capabilities like overviews being integrated into search results.

Google's mobile share increased but its desktop share decreased, resulting in a global gain from 90.85% to 91.1%. While the market share of other search engines decreased, Bing had a little uptick, reaching 3.7% worldwide.

The study emphasises how little Google's supremacy is affected by AI-based search engines. According to Bank of America, "Emerging AI-based search engine traffic still less than 0.3% of Google traffic."

BofA notes that this includes ChatGPT, whose traffic allegedly decreased to 98 million visits in a month-over-month reduction of 12%.

Analysts from Bank of America are optimistic about Google's future. They believe that a "broader rollout of AI overviews will likely help drive higher usage" and that the incorporation of AI will increase revenue from all of Google's products.
